Fundraising Event  Walk for Sight

 

Over 1,500 participants comprising kindergarten, primary and secondary students, their parents and teachers, as well as celebrities and keen supporters from a number of corporations took part in a charity walk held on 16th January 2000 to raise funds for eye care along the Promenade from Tsim Sha Tsui to Hung Hom.  

Mrs. Rita Fan, who headed the Celebrities Team, had pooled the support from a wide range of prominent community figures, including Commissioner Ma Yuzhen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the PRC, Deputy Director Liu Chanzai of Xinhua News Agency, Legislators Eric Li, Sophie Leung, Yeung Yiu Chung and Lau Chin-shek, Senior Government Officials Elsie Leung, K. C. Kwong and Jackie Willis, Airport Chief Billy Lam, and keen charity supporters Richard Tang, Mrs. Christine Wong, Mrs. Tsang Wong Lei-kuan, Mrs. Kathryn Louey, Dr. Susan Chan, Mrs. Nancy Lee and Mrs. Sophia Kao Lo. 

Moreover, a souvenir pack consisted of an eye care ruler and a leaflet was distributed to all comers including 15 participating schools and organizations. 

The Foundation would like to extend the sincere thanks to Ms. Maggie Koong, Mr. Wong Kwan Yu, Mr. Ian Tse and Ms. Lo Oi Ling for their kind assistance in organizing this event.  All proceeds will go to the launching of an eye-screening program for pre-schoolers and primary pupils to facilitate early detection of eye problems among the young children of Hong Kong.
