Charity Football Carnival

This Football Carnival, held on 12th December 1999 was the first fundraising program for the Action for Vision with an aim to launch a free community outreach eye care program for the elderly in Hong Kong.

Over 1,000 participants, both young and old, were attracted to the football tournament, games, jumbo sales and "The Golden Oldies" music and dance.

Celebrities who attended the Carnival included various ExCo and LegCo Members. Mrs. Rita Fan, Hon Tam Yiu-chung, Timothy Fok and Tony Niem who started the telematch games and joined Ho Sai-chu and Mrs. Sophia Kao Lo, co-chairmen of the Organizing Committee of the event, at the Kick-off ceremony before the Final Match.

Mrs. Christina Lee, Hon Advisor to the Foundation, joined Prof. Dennis Lam, Chairman of the Foundation in announcing the inauguration of the Action for Vision Eye Foundation on that day and attended as the Guest of Honour for this event. The Foundation was overwhelmed with the support from many generous donors and received a sum of HK$4 Million. The donors included Dr. Yu-Tung Cheng Eye Foundation, The D. H. Chen Foundation, Lee Hysan Foundation Limited and T. K. Lam Charitable Foundation.

The Foundation would like to express our deep gratitude to Legislative Council Football Team, All Stars Football Team, La Salle Old Boys Asso. Football Team, Friends of AFV Football Team, Urban Services Department, La Salle College and Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, CUHK for their support and assistance in organizing this fundraising event.
